Advocacy and Engagement
For over 100 years the women of NCJW | LA have worked tirelessly in the pursuit of social justice for the Los Angeles community. We strive to influence public policy and improve social conditions through public forums, educational panel discussions, thought-provoking films, petitions, lobbying, coalition-building, grassroots activism, and media campaigns.

ECONOMIC JUSTICE
Our advocacy work prioritizes economic justice for women and their families. Our advocacy work continues to intentionally expand to support policy implementation at the local and state level centered on Guarantee Income.
Nevertheless, our advocacy work also connects with coalitions that work on passing policies that promote economic security, foster dignity in the workplace, expand the safety net for women and their families, affordable housing, reproductive justice, voting rights, racial and economic justice, and civic engagement.
NCJW|LA is proud to work with diverse coalitions throughout Los Angeles and California, including the following:
The California Work & Family Coalition
The Los Angeles Coalition for Reproductive Justice
Advocacy Working Group
Our Advocacy Working Group (AWG) monthly standing meetings are held via zoom on the first Thursday from 3:30-5:00 pm PST. AWG provides community members, leaders, and advocates a space to learn, plan, and reimagine what can be possible WHEN communities join forces and advocate for the issues impacting those most in need. NCJW|LA is an open and safe place; we encourage, welcome, and celebrate diversity and inclusivity in our meetings and other work areas.

Series are held twice a year; for more information on our next series cycle and to stay updated, email advocacy@ncjwla.org or visit our website.
Microgrant Program offers a one-time, $350 cash award.
These microgrants are for short-term action projects individuals wish to implement in their communities by applying the skills and knowledge learned during ATP. Sample projects include a letter-writing campaign, a training/workshop, or a community event.
The program cycle is currently closed. To stay informed and updated on when the program cycle opens, email advocacy@ncjwla.org or visit our website.
Abortion Access & Justice
NCJW|LA is committed to abortion access, as we believe it is an issue that intersects with economic justice. Our yearly Roe V Wade had to be paused after the 2022 SCOTUS ruling to ban abortion projection at the federal level.
Abortion is now illegal in many states, and we are witnessing the devastating consequences of outlawing it. California and a few other states have stepped up with firmer laws and constitutional amendments to protect any person seeking access to abortions.
Although California elected officials' great work and support, economic barriers still disproportionately affect BIPOC communities from accessing abortions.
Because of this, we have decided to spend the next few months curating a Toolkit in partnership with We Testify. With this toolkit, we will host a series of community events that will educate the community at large about the economic barriers and inequities BIPOC communities are faced with when seeking and accessing abortion services,

Since the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Lobby Day has been held virtually. Our yearly convening invites Advocates from our various NCJW California sections to connect with California State Senators and Assemblymembers in Sacramento. We anticipate 2024 will resume an in-person Lobby Day, but for this year, NCJW|LA 2023 Lobby Day is scheduled to be controlled via zoom on Wednesday, April 26.
