Advocacy and Engagement
For over 100 years the women of NCJW | LA have worked tirelessly in the pursuit of social justice for the Los Angeles community. We strive to influence public policy and improve social conditions through public forums, educational panel discussions, thought-provoking films, petitions, lobbying, coalition-building, grassroots activism, and media campaigns.

ECONOMIC JUSTICE
Economic justice encompasses the moral principles which guide us in designing our economic policies. These policies determine how each person earns a living, participates in the economy, and contributes to society. NCJW|LA is a Steering Committee Member of the CA Work and Family Coalition.
Advancing Economic Justice and Equity
Our advocacy efforts have intentionally reshifted to focus on advancing economic justice and equity for women and their families.
NCJW|LA is proud to work with diverse coalitions throughout Los Angeles working to promote and advance economic security, dignity in the work place, and improve safety the lives of struggling working families
Fair Workweek LA:
Is a coalition of retail workers, labor, health advocates, clergy and community allies working together to pass a fair scheduling policy that would ensure a family-sustaining workweek for retail workers. In Los Angeles this means, predictable workweeks, opportunity to work, flexibility and healthy workers.
The California work and family Coalition:
The California Work & Family Coalition and its Los Angeles members and partners have been working on this issue since the first Paid Family Leave law passed in 2002. In Los Angeles we are advocating for the passing of a Paid Parental Leave Ordinance. Under the proposed ordinance, workers who are receiving California Paid Family Leave benefits to bond with a new child or State Disability Insurance to care for a pregnancy-related disability will also be able to receive Paid Parental Leave, which will pay the difference between a worker’s weekly salary and their state benefits. Expand benefits to Caregivers, Include anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation language to protect the rights of historically marginalized groups of people and include a path for city workers to receive Paid Family Leave benefits.
Join our Advocacy Working Group to help, guide our projects and programs, and work on policy advocacy throughout the year to advance economic justice and equity for working women and their families. AWG (Advocacy Working Group) monthly meetings are a space for community members, leaders and advocates to learn, plan, and reimagine what is possible WHEN communities join forces and advocate for the issues impacting those most in need. We welcome new participants and encourage representation from all backgrounds to attend.
