The Basket Weave

When you think luxury does the term “understated” come to mind? The other week I wrote about “clothes worthy of their label” and in the spirit of labels that emphasize design I would like to share these Bottega Veneta accessories from this week’s sale at our Fairfax location. The Bottega Veneta basket weave is a frequently reproduced, popular style and technique associated with the brand’s leather accessories.  The  soft hand-woven leather bags intentionally do not feature any hardware of logos on the outside thus differentiating them from other luxury hand-bags. A 2008 New York Times piece on the brand called their signature style “the standard-bearer for a new kind of luxury: subtle, long-lasting and recession-proof”. The vintage styles featured in this post are a testament to the long lasting durability and timeless style the brand is known for.

This small gold clutch is my favorite. I love the unexpected charm drawstring closure.

Do people still match their bags to their shoes? (Shoes are vintage not Bottega)

Two over-sized clutches and a matching basket weave heel.

Other accessories I enjoyed this week:

Textured leather dr. style vintage handbag from the days of I. Magnin next to some “practical” vintage Gucci loafers

These vintage velvet Dior slip-ons totally remind me of the puritan shoes at the Marc Jacobs Fall 12′ show
