Why Pregnant People?

We know there is an economic burden pregnant people with restricted income face. Financial stresses during pregnancy can create challenging conditions affecting birth outcomes. Guaranteed Income can help relieve some of these strains and stressors. NCJW|LA is excited to show how cash can reduce stress and improve the lives of pregnant people.

The P.A.I.D. program welcomes participants to apply up to the end of the 27th week of pregnancy. The program is designed to start as early in pregnancy as possible to impact as much of the pregnancy as possible.

Eligibility

P.A.I.D. will provide 180 randomly selected pregnant individuals with $1,000/month of unconditional income for 18 months.

To be eligible for the program, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Reside in Los Angeles County
  • Be in your 1st or 2nd trimester of pregnancy during the time of enrollment
  • Have a combined household income of less than or equal to HUD’s low-income threshold
  • Must be 18 years or older

Program Goals

The P.A.I.D. program aims to develop a plan for change and conduct a study to show how maternal health and poverty are connected. Other goals include:

  • Reduce the economic burden of low-income pregnant people.
  • Make life better for pregnant people with low income from different races. As well as fix the unfair differences in their social, economic, and health situations during pregnancy.
  • Improve the quality of life of babies born into low-income families.

All applicants who are eligible will be invited to the full application within one business day.
