FEBRUARY 24, 2022 NEWSLETTER

Applications Open Friday, Feb. 25th

NCJW|LA is proud to partner with the City of West Hollywood for the West Hollywood Pilot for Guaranteed Income (WHPGI), the first pilot in the country to focus on delivering direct cash assistance to LGBTQIA older adults. This partnership is an extension of our rental assistance program for West Hollywood residents and an expansion of our own Guaranteed Income micro-pilot for Caregivers and Healthcare Workers in northeast Los Angeles.

Guaranteed income programs are directly tied to our mission to advance economic justice and equity for working women and their families. GI programs afford individuals and families the opportunity to have greater financial stability through direct cash assistance, allowing everyone to make financial decisions that are best for their own circumstances without any requirements or restrictions. Through WHPGI, the City of West Hollywood aims to champion and promote the resilience of LGBTQIA older adults who have historically been marginalized by systemic and institutional barriers to housing, employment, and access to resources needed to achieve economic stability.

Applications will be available online from Friday, February 25 through Sunday, March 6. 25 randomly selected participants will receive $1,000 in direct cash assistance from April 2022-September 2023. Applicants must meet all four eligibility criteria: 1) Identify as LGBTQIA, 2) Live in the City of West Hollywood (housed or unhoused), 3) Be 50 years of age or older as of 4/1/2022, and 4) Have a household income of 50% or lower of the Area Median Income for the Los Angeles area.  If you know any eligible community members, please encourage them to apply by visiting https://www.ncjwla.org/whpgi/ to access the application and learn more about WHPGI.

Pick-Up COVID-19 Test Kits

The new testing program is designed to increase and facilitate COVID-19 tests for LA County residents unable to obtain appointments. The Pick-Up Testing Kit program allows residents to pick up a PCR test kit, perform the test and return the completed test to designated sites for processing. Residents will be notified of their test results within 24-48 hours.

Pick-Up Testing Kits will be available without an appointment and until daily supplies are exhausted at designated locations. The Pick-Up Testing Kit is a PCR test that requires individuals to register online with a smartphone.  Follow the instructions inside the package to self-test and return the completed test for results. These kits are not  rapid test kits. If not feasible, schedule an appointment at one of our testing locations.

Pick-Up Testing Kits are provided at no cost to you if you meet the following criteria:

  • Have symptoms of COVID-19, OR
  • Think you were exposed to COVID-19.

The new Pick-Up Testing Kit program will operate at 13 testing sites across LA County.  Click here to find a full list of pick-up sites.
