Welcome to our new blog series, where we will be spotlighting all of our Council Thrift Shop locations in the weeks to come. With 8 stores throughout Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, each with their own distinct personalities and neighborhoods to explore, visiting any Council Thrift makes for a fun shopping adventure.
Our first spotlight is on the Canoga Park store, located at 21716 Sherman Way, Canoga Park, CA 91303. On any given day, the store is usually running some kind of special (hint: don’t miss their weekend deals!). On the day of our visit, we were pleased to find multiple ways to save, with all art and records being sold at 50% off, and shoes & handbags at “Buy 2, Get 1 Free”. Score!
Book lovers will find plenty of shelves to look through… we found everything from the classics to hard-to-find cookbooks and photography, as well as some quality science fiction to satisfy our need to read.
The housewares department was overflowing with silverware, tableware, kitschy decorations and vintage treasures. Impossible to miss was an enormous room sized rug. It must have been at least 15’ x 10’ or larger, with a gorgeous Persian style pattern. Certainly a top-notch quality rug, it was almost too beautiful to walk on! We were equally taken in by a pair of lovely mirrored pillars that looked like they could be used as end tables, plant or display stands. With gorgeous Israeli glass vases & Judaica, vintage pottery, antique oil lamps, and Bakelite handled cutlery on offer, we found items to satisfy any decorating style.
In the jewelry cases, we found beautiful bracelets and bangles to fit all budgets.

Where the Canoga Park Council Thrift Shop really impressed us was with their assortment of gently used clothing. On this particular day, the men’s clothing section was sporting a wide selection of designer threads, including numerous Tommy Bahama shirts, Fred Perry tops, high-end denim jeans, and fabulous Italian silk ties.
Not to be outdone, the women’s department was brimming with prom-worthy gowns, fantastic furs, and brands like Ralph Lauren and Johnny Was to classy up any wardrobe. The shoe section was no exception, with Cole Haan, Michael Kors, Salvatore Ferragamo, vintage Vans & Converse, and many other sought-after brands.

We always enjoy our visits to the Canoga Park Council Thrift Shop, and this time was no exception. Whether we leave with the car filled with thrifted finds or just that one unique item that we couldn’t leave behind, it’s always worth the trip!
