“MCGINLEY: Those words—reduction and minimalism—mean very different things, but people think they are very similar. But reduction is about reducing, pairing things down, taking away.
COSTA: What bothers me about the term minimalist is that it is so connected with a distinct period. It links me to the past. But I design for today.”
— Francisco Costa interviewed by Ryan McGinley
Clean lines and classic pieces in this last set of images from the previous sale at our Granville location. Though the designers featured are Japanese, Italian, and Austrian respectively, you can see like-minded thinking in these pieces. Sometimes even designers are sick of the “now” and want to focus on “today”. The possibility of creating something modern even if it is based on a classical archetype. The first images are of a set of white and off-white blouses by Marni, Kenzo, and Yohji Yamamoto. Don’t you just want to breathe a sigh of relief when looking at them?
